Everett Albers Chautauqua

Museum on Main Street

Visit the newest Museum on Main Street exhibit, Journey Stories, in the host communities of Enderlin, Beach, Wahpeton, Casselton, Washburn and Ellendale.

Dakota Discussions

Since the program's inception in March 2006, more than 2,000 people have taken part in 90 Dakota Discussions (formerly ND Reads) programs in 24 communities. Presently, Dakota Discussions allows reading groups to select three books from one of five distinct themes and meet at regular intervals to discuss them. The NDHC lends the books and makes the link between the reading group and a scholar who provides an introduction to the book and author and helps facilitate the discussion sessions.

Read North Dakota

Read North Dakota is dedicated to celebrating and promoting literature created in and about North Dakota. In 2008 the focus is on nonfiction, with esteemed historian Dr. James McPherson, a native of Valley City, as the featured author.

North Dakota Center for the Book

The North Dakota Center for the Book seeks to promote and celebrate books, the literary arts, and North Dakota 's intellectual heritage. North Dakota Reads, the Letters About Literature student competition, and the partnership in Read North Dakota are all programs of the NDCFTB.

North Star Dakotan

This student newspaper is available to teachers, providing an educational and well-written illustrated history of North Dakota. The seven tabloids will be available on the internet in 2008. Go to www.NDStudies.org.

NDHC and UND partner to establish an Institute for Philosophy in Public Life

The goal of the institute is to bring an understanding of philosophy and philosophical research to the general public across North Dakota.

Bowman - Farm Women in the settlement Era of North Dakota

Barbara Handy-Marchello has been studying the economic role of women in the nineteenth-century for years. Based on research for her recent book, Women on the Northern Plains: Gender and Settlement on the Homestead Frontier, 1870-1930, this talk explores with the audience how femaile settlers made a difference in the establishment of successful family farms and communities on the rural plains.
